According to the manual, pg 15 in the center section says the unit will not upconvert any type of signal, including composite, s-video, or component. If the unit is supposed to upconvert, you would run your equipment that doesn't have component outputs to the receiver, then output the component jacks from the receiver to the tv - assuming it has component ins. Component R/G/B is your best signal transfer. You are right, that manual is terrible. I thought Denon was lousy.

thanks, yeah i tried to hook it up and when it didnt work i assumed it just didnt have the up conversion. it was some false info i read on one of the forums.

i have a question about the sub channel though.. i can set it as none, L+R LFE, or just LFE.

whats the difference between just LFE and L+R LFE..

LFE maybe seems like it cuts off lower, but i have no idea.. does l+r mean im getting bass from the left and right mains? or what...

*yeah i guess it means, LFE is only output when there is a designated digital signal being sent for that channel, and if there isnt, the L+R will send one.

Yeah, oddly enough HK's only "upconverting" receivers are their AVR 635 and AVR 7300; even their digital receivers don't upconvert. Regarding the LFE stuff -- if I'm not mistaken, that refers to your being able to select the option of running your sub with your mains. If you select "SUB LFE+L/R" you can run the sub when you're playing stereo. In that case, you can select the cross-over, i.e., all bass frequencies below a certain point will be sent to the sub. You really need to read the manual -- as bad as it may seem.
