Harmon Kardon AVR7300 help

I have had my AVR7300 for a few years now, and all I have really done is set the delays to the speakers. I made it my mission last night to read through the manual and try and understand the features of the unit etc.

The other night I used my digital video essentials DVD in order to try and set up the sound Db levels, but I am having trouble with that disc too, in that I cannot get it to put the pink noises through one speaker while I adjust it and then manually move to the next speaker, but I’ve put that up on another post.

I guess what I am looking for is help with the correct setup for this unit and to help me with the numerous questions I have as I read through the manual as well as maybe helping me with the DVE disc, I do not have a dedicated room, and the room I have is not ideal but I want to get it the best I can in the space I have.

If anyone could help me I would be really appreciative I have tried contacting Harmon Directly but I never ever get a response.

Most people generally use just the receiver’s test tones to set the channel levels. I also have the 7300 manual downloaded so I may be able help. Check other thread for DVE info.

Receiver setup.

In addition to setting the delay/distances. Look for the following settings:

Speaker levels - usually the receiver will play a test tone while you make adjustments. Ideally, you would use a Radio Shack or other SPL meter to measure the levels.

Crossover - Start with 80 Hz.

Speaker Size - set all speakers to SMALL and sub to ON. If you don't have 7.1 w/ surround backs, set these to OFF.

The DVE disc is most useful for calibrating the video on your display. There should be some tutorial videos included on the disc.

Yes I have a radioshack SPL meter, I will try the test tone on the AMP tonight, I thought the one on the DVE disc would have been better (no idea why i thought that though).

I have a 5.1 set up 4xKEF Q4, Q6c Centre and PSW2500 Sub, I know all speakers are set to small but i will have to find out how to adjust the crossover

thanks for your help, this gives me something to start with.
