Harmon Kardon AVR 80

I thought I was getting a good deal buying this old reciever that fit my small needs of a clear, loud, 4 speaker setup w/o the need of new fancy features. To my surprise, this reciever is cutting out in 10 minutes at -16 dB. I thought it might be due to having the DVD player going through the TV to the reciever, but that is the same way I had my Sony reciever hooked up that sounded as good just past half power w/o cutting out for hours. Is this reciever junk or do you guys suspect something is wrong w/ it? The reciever is not hot at all.

I owned an AVR 80 for years only to upgrade to an AVR 7200 a while later. Neither machine ever cut out, even operating for an extended amount of time at higher volume levels. I can say this though: They ABSOLUTELY got hot. Both machines generated A LOT of heat. I'm sure some uber-tweaker will soon correct me, but I always assumed it was because of their high-current design.
I've always loved the warm sound and simple designs of the HK's. I think the one you have may have some issues. Good luck and I hope that helps.
