Hi,i just bought hk avr 330 ,i used to have pionner vsx514 which i liked it very much,i used to use 5ch stereo when i watched dvd , but cant use it anymore in hk ,because hk use dolby digital only for dvds ,if i want to use 5ch stereo i have to connect in analog ,and not using the digital input .

I want also to use 5ch in movies using my digital input , do i need to program something ? or change settings ? plz helpppppppppppppppppppp:confused:

With my HK635, it automatically defaults to Dolby Digital any time it detects a Dolby Digital source. I don't think you can progam it to play a 5 ch stereo when you are playing a DD source. In all honesy, why would you want to? Dolby Digital is far superior for watching DVD's than watching it in 5 ch stereo. Or maybe I'm not understanding what your asking.

Check the manual to see if you can set a default decoder for various input formats. I don't know off-hand if the model HK has that feature but many new receivers in its price class allow you set the default (so it would choose 5 ch stereo when it sees DD as the input format).

If you can't set a default decoder and it always selects the DD decoder, then you will have to manually change it to 5 ch stereo. There should be a button on the remote and/or front panel (usually called 'surr') to change the surround mode.

you can plug in analog audio. you should beable to switch back and forth from (stereo) analog and optical 1 or whatever your digital is. I do it all the time with my HK. Theres a setting in the osd which makes the digital setting default you can turn that off. I forget which on it is but it's in the manual

Hook up BOTH digital AND analog to the receiver. When the receiver is hooked up only in digital, it will play the digital format it detects...which is usually DD (unless DTS, DD 5.1 etc). If it is hooked up in ONLY analog, it will play in only analog which then you can use the different selections of the receiver, but then you CANT use DD, DD5.1, DTS, etc...

If you hook up both, you can use all the features of the receiver by switching back and forth between digital and analog. eg...switch the input on the receiver from the digital input (coax, or optical) and the analog input for the specific source. Just as Ironmike suggested, switch back and fourth to your desired format.

I do the same thing when watching SOME DVD concerts!

What Mr. Lamb Fries described is how I have my HK 330 hooked up. I have all the analogs hooked up along with the optical inputs so I can switch on the fly between DD, dts DVD's and DVD-A/SACD.
