I'm considering the purchase of a New Harman Kardon DPR-2005 for only $499. It sounds like a really good deal and it appears the HK technology will serve my needs for many years.

Please let me know if your thoughts on HK.

Thanks!

FYI - I have the following speakers

Polk center = CSi5
Polk Fronts = RTi170
Polk Rears = RT15i

That’s a great price on that receiver, so I wouldn't pass it up.

The whole technology behind this receiver is Texas Instruments TAS5518 PWM processor (Link) which stands for pulse-width modulator (PWM). This technology basically means that the Digital Signal coming into the Receiver (DTS, Dolby, PCM) will hit the actual power amplifier (TAS5121 (Link), or another Digital Amplifier in that family) in digital form without going through a DAC first.

Technically, this gives you a WAY better SNR since there's no analog conversion/interference of the signal before it enters the amplifier.

I'm curious to hear others opinion on this receiver.

HK Receivers

I have read that the HK's receivers with the analog amplifier stage are superior to the digital models. I plan to pick up one of the HK AVR-235 for my entry level HT system. You can find some great deals on HK's ebay site:

They sell refurbished units with the full manufacturer warranty. You might be able to find the AVR-630 or 635 in the same price range on their site.

$499 is a great deal on the DPR2005

At $499, I'd roll the dice. That was an $1800 unit last year. J&R, which is a huge retailer for HK, is still selling the unit for $799. Do a google search for DPR2005 reviews, or problems. I spoke with HK about that unit before purchase my Denon 3805. I was looking at that unit, along with the AVR7300. They told me the 7300 was a much better unit, but the 2005 was next in line. The 7300 is still going for $1342 at J&R, and just under $1000 refurbished at Harman Kardon Direct's ebay site. $499 is a great deal if the unit is reliable.

Thanks for your input

Thanks for the advice. I purchased it at Fry's in Austin and I'm very pleased with it. The remote control is a little much but other than that it's great.
