Any opinions on how the HK DVD 48 stacks up to other upscaling DVDs when it come to audio performance? It plays all the formats DVD-Video or DVD-Audio, standard-conforming DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW, DVD+RW, SACD™, VCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW or MP3 discs.

Specs look good. Dynamic Range : DVD: 100dB (18-bit)/105dB (20-bit)
CD/DVD: 96dB (16-bit) Analog Audio Output : 2V RMS (1kHz, 0dB)

I have a HK 3490 stereo receiver and love it!! I'm running it with the early OppO DVD970HD.

A friend wants to buy the set. I was thinking of replacing it with the new style HK 3490 and DVD 48 just because it matches my LG LCD better. I don't think I'm gonna notice any difference in sound with the HK. What do you guys think?

Yeah, I really don't think you will notice any difference in sound quality either.

I was going to say, "What difference does it make when you're running a digital audio cable?" Then I read stereo receiver. Any player that does SACD will have halfway decent DAC's unlike the $30 Wal-Mart players. My guess is that you should be fine.

Hi Nordhaven,
What all did you compare 3490 to before buying it? I am considering it as well.

Although Harman Kardon makes some very nice equipment, they have never been known for stellar DVD performance.

I would suggest an Oppo Digital or a Denon any day.

If you want a well tested DVD regimine from a third party site, I suggest you go visit Secrets of Home Theater DVD Benchmark.

That should give you all the information you need to make an educated decision on DVD performance.

Don't take my word for it.
