Harman Kardon AVR335 DTS Matrix problem

I have an AVR-335 receiver, and I recently bought to more speakers so I now have a complete 7.1 setup. I can play DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete DVD movies on this receiver just great... I mean they sound perfect. What I can not get it to do is take an ordinary 5.1 DTS track, and convert it to a DTS-ES Matrix track so the rear speakers have sound coming out as well. The manual seems to claim that it does this.

It states that, aside from DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete DVDs, "All other DTS discs will be decoded using the DTS-ES Matrix mode, which creates a 6.1 channel sound field from the original 5.1 channel soundtrack." Pretty straight forward to me.

It can do either a "5.1" or a "6.1/7.1" surround mode, and it doesn't seem to want to stay in the latter. As soon as I put a dvd movie in with a DTS track, it goes back to the 5.1 mode. The best I can get it to do is a "DTS: Neo +6" mode. I've talked to their tech support and I'm not getting anywhere. Has anyone ran across this problem or something similar? I'm going crazy here and I'm wondering if I paid $500 to be able to play the 2 dvds that I have that are in DTS-ES 6.1 Discrete, because right now thats about the main difference between the AVR335 and my Onkyo TXSR501. Hellllp!

Our HK630 does the same. I assume it's down to the flags on the actual dvd's themselves. If it's flagged it will display DTS ES Matrix, if not, then it displays DTS+Neo 6. They're basically the same anyway.
