Hello
Guys please I need help
Ive purchased my expensive harman kardon avr-255 a year ago, and I haven't been using it because i didn't have speakers
Anyway I got Bose speakers now
There's a problem I don't know what to do about it anymore
Everytime I power on the amp it starts for 2 seconds then it gives me protect message then shuts off
Here are some things to note :
- i power on, protect message appears then shut down
- sometimes it does power on without giving me protect and it works perfectly, until I power off and try to power on again the message protect appears again, so in other words, most of the time the protect message appears, but very little times it does work
- there's only one case in which it works perfectly with no protect message, that is when I plug in my headphones in the headphones input at the front panel of the amp, when it is being plugged , when I power on the amp it always work, but when i unplug the headphones the protect message appears once I unplug it and then the amp shuts off as usual
Pleaseeee help

Try unplugging one speaker at a time and power the receiver on - then unplug the next speaker - etc. It might be one speaker with a strand of wire bridging the gap between the terminals - or something wrong with the crossover in that speaker. If that doesn't isolate the problem try unplugging one interconnect at a time - power up the receiver each time a change is made. Interconnects also go bad.

With what you've said about plugging in the headphones it may be with the speakers. What is the ohm rating on the speakers?

The headphones has its own independent stereo power amplifier, so when a headphone plug is inserted it switches out the primary amplifiers/output stages...

As mentioned check carefully for a small shorted wire strand either @ the rear panel AVR speaker out jack and/or @ the loudspeaker input terminals. A qwikee way to test is to disconnect ALL loudspeakers then try and power up the AVR..

Just my $0.00... ;)

Does that reciever have the ability to do a complete reset? If so I would try it.

Internal problem, needs to go to the HK repair center.
Most likely a blown output device and/or driver transistor, should be under warranty.

Just my $0.00... ;)
