is it bad to mix different brands of equipment like an onkyo cd player and a harman kardon receiver? and is harman kardon a good brand?

No. Sometimes.
You'll have to excuse Clint, he has a Yamaha and Denon fetish.

I like H/K for a couple of reasons:

1. It's an American company
2. They have the best warranty and great customer service.

Which model receiver are you looking at?

Looks like a nice receiver and has got a lot of good reviews. I suspect your going to use this just for music as this is only a stereo receiver not a surround sound.

As for the cd player maybe someone else can chime in [or try a search] I always kind of figured a cd player is a cd player?
