Started with an Onkyo 8255 Stereo Receiver, it had HORRIBLE packaging from amazon and it was defective so i returned it. One side was louder than the other.
Used a sony receiver temporarily with optical inputs, although the sound was more grainy it was also more detailed!
Received the HK 3490 today to find the remote defective and the amp a returned or refurbished item although i thought it would be brand new! The remote will not allow dimming of the display. The sound is also a little hissing when the volume is turned up.
So far the HK is pretty good, it's MUCH more powerful than my Sony (100w/CH) and Onkyo (50W/Ch) But the mid-range isn't very revealing. Vocals are a little too laid back for my tastes, maybe it needs to break in?
I initially REALLY wanted the Onkyo A-5VL but was worried 40w per channel would be too weak for my current and future speakers... What are your thoughts? I currently have Scientific Fidelity Teslas but i may get B&W 684s or something similar in the near future. Any feedback is welcome, thank you!
Oh right I'm not looking at receivers/amps without a digital in because i'm using a SONY Blu-ray player as a CD player, so using analog will not yield great results. Trust me I tried it... haha
