I read all that - and it is pretty freakin' cool. HDTV broadcasting is really amazing. One of the guys I work with helped to setup WETA 26 (PBS) in the Washington DC area and run some of the very first broadcast HD in the USA. Some of the stories he has about their headaches is amazing.

It is really amazing to think that so much of what we see as broadcast television is fully dealt with using composite cabling prior to broadcast.

S-Video? Forget it! It's almost all composite video in the production rooms. Just kind of crazy when you think about how much push we all have for a bit better video and they all start with the lowest level out there.

1080p is a different story of course since we will be seeing it with Blu-Ray this year for sure. Nothing was really progressive prior to the DVD... so it just takes a bit of push from the industry before it becomes the 'norm'.
