Your picture of what bored sys admins do reminded me of what we used to do when we were bored during my collge summer job as a Computer Operator. Back in the ole main frame days magnetic tapes had a read/write ring. To make read only you took the ring out .... ring toss and every variation you could think off ..especially third shift
