My employer decided he wanted a TV, because he didn't have one. So I got to order him a complete SVS MTS speaker system, including the PB13-Ultra sub. :)

I also got to order a Oppo BDP-83, Samsung PN58B860 58" Plasma, Onkyo TX-NR807, Logitech Harmony 1100, and a nice order from Blue Jeans Cable(very impressed by the way).

So I am sitting in the office starting at the SVS boxes and really wishing they were mine... that is why I am posting this in the steam vent :D

I get to set everything up, which will be fun, but it is going to ruin me for my system at home.

I am looking forward to hearing the Svs setup, the speakers seem to built very well, and the driver selection is very impressive. The next step is talking him into a second PB13-Ultra, and an Emotiva XPA-5 amp

All that because the guy didn’t have a TV? Have you ever considered going into sales? :D

Used to be :)

Well, he made the mistake of mentioning that it would be nice to watch movies at home. And the fact that the whole system's cost is basically irrelevant to him made it an easy sell. I basically set him up with what I would buy if I was in his position. High performance, at a smart price.

I would also recommend having the Samsung TV professionally calibrated to give optimal visual quality...

Load it all in your truck, drive home, set it up and then call in sick for the next 365 days.

Does he even know what he has? At least pull the driver and amp out of the sub and build you own. I'm sure walmart has a cheap driver you can throw in there to make it a passive unit.

I would also consider swapping drivers and crossovers with the drivers and crossovers that are in whatever you have. You could easily build new enclosures later.

I would also consider swapping the cases out on whatever receiver you have and take the internal parts of his.

WORST case, he sure doesn't know what a blue jeans cable is and probably would like the convenience of whatever cables you have much better.

I really don't see the problem here. Congrats on YOUR new gear.

ok, I got to spend the afternoon setting up the audio portion of the system. We stopped at a local retailer to but the tv, but they were out of stock. Anyway, I am seriously impressed by the SVS system. Build quality is out of this world, and the pb-13... lets just say it was worth carrying upstairs. It is by far the most incredible, clean bass I have heard. I just got everything roughed in and hooked up today, but the SACD's I threw on were amazing.

And believe me, I have tried to think of anyway to substitute what he got into my system... I think he might have noticed ;)

Anyway, lets just say that I now have a laundry list of upgrades that I NEED, just lacking the funds.

The problem with the above scenario, is that I have been talking up the system to him for a couple weeks now, and we stopped at a local audio store and listened to a $20,000 stereo setup with a McIntosh tube amp and pre-amp, hooked up to some $14,000 speakers, and he liked it. So I think he can tell :(

Anyway, I told him that I just bought him my practical dream system.

He did say he would leave me the sub in the will! :D

I will mention that to him, as I agree it will look great with a calibration, I don't think he will go for it though as he is coming from a 19" monitor, and the whole big screen hd concept has him pretty excited.

I also wanted to mention the oppo blu-ray player is top notch. Build quality is amazing, and the sound quality was impressive. I am looking forward to getting everything hooked up once the tv comes, especially to check out it's upconversion of standard dvd's.
