Hello,

I recently bought a refrub AVR 445 from H/K direct. Anyone have problems with theirs? I have read some posts and it seems to be a good buy.

Thanks in advance.

I haven't heard anything negative regarding people who purchased refurbished from H/K.

I haven't purchased a receiver from them, but I have purchased speakers. They have all come in almost brand new condition. I would have no issues from purchasing a receiver or any other piece of electronics from them in the future.

I wish I had bought a refurb.:) Mine was only 30% or 40% off. I'd like to know what you paid if you care to share.

I bought refurbished speakers from H/K. They came in the original box, sealed, with all the paperwork - they looked as if they had just come off the assembly line, and worked perfectly. I would buy any refurbised item from them, without remorse.

Hope this helps.

I also got a refurb from them for a fraction of the price. Couldnt have been happier looks perfect and still comes with the warranty I dont know why anyone would pay full price.

I took a gamble and bought an AVR245 from their eBay store. Still dealing with HarmanDirect and factory refurb warranty. Unit arrived in great shape and works fine. It was missing the microphone for auto-setup and calibration and Harman sent one within days of reporting the absence. No doubts about dealing with www.harmanaudio.com or eBay seller "Harmanaudio".

I paid 500 dollars shipped. I thought that it was a good price, consdering I can get the lower 247 for the same price at Best Buy. I bought some Klipsch refurb computer speakers a year ago directly from Klipsch and never had a problem. Perhaps refurb is the way to go on some items?

My system right now is Klipsch RF-25 for front and a HSU STF-8 subwoofer. I found some 15 year old Bose in my basement that I forgot I had for surrounds for now. Just need a center channel....

Correct me if I'm wrong. Klipsh refurb has a 90 day warentee while the Harman International products come with a full year.

My Klipsch computer speakers are 1 year, I think they changed it to 1 year from 90days.
And HK is 2 years for receivers.

Got the HK today, looks brand new and no Z in the serial number. I did recieve two remotes.... Weird.

The HK I have to say sounds better with my Klipsch reference than my Jolida hybrid did.... The sound is soooo much cleaner....

The second remote is to operate Zone 2. To use this with my AVR 430 I would need to buy more stuff to actually make the remote work and I would actually have to do more work to make the remote work. I have put the remote in a zip-lock bag with a little bag of silica and forgotten where I put it. Haven't missed it one bit.

Have fun.:)

Edit: BTW I operate Zone 2 with my main remote.

okay cool. I thought that it was an accident extra.
I thought the HK was easy to set up. Sounds great!

Yeah i almost bought the 630 actually, because of more power. BUT, it was a 2003 model and did not have XM ready or Ipod Bridge for it, so I choose the 445. I hope yours comes to you in the same condition as mine did. I do not see any blemishes on the unit. The only thing was the batteries for the remote were dead, maybe that is why it was returned. Also I heard that if there is a Z in the serial number it denotes a "real" refurb and mine does not have a Z in the serial number. I thought that manual was good not great, it just depends on much of a hurry you are in trying to setup your unit. I just took my time and it took like 10 minutes. I did not use the auto setup feature.

A friend of mine called me earlier today wanting to know if there were "different types of HDMI cable". The reason he was asking was that he couldn't get audio from his PS3 through to his brand spanking new HK AVR245.

Of course I told him no, that all HDMI cables supported audio and I dug out the online manual for his receiver to try to figure out the issue. It turns out that this crappy HK receiver with HMDI "switching" only manages a half arsed job of HDMI and unfortunately audio isn't a part of the deal; any HDMI video input has to get its audio from optical or coax source connections (pp14 of the manual). I mean, really, how silly is that? And only 50wpc too.

Why bother when, for the same price, you can get an Onkyo/Yamaha/Denon/Pioneer with more features and more power?

Oh, and any of you guys with a PS3 hoping to get TruHD out of them are in for a surprise if you try to do it without HDMI audio; it's just not possible folks.

I think i am going to go ahead and get the 630 for more power. it is the same as all preceding levels till the 637 when it goes to ipod and hdmi. I think for the same price, the power if definantly worth it. Hopefully they will be out of the 630 and push me on up to the 635. i think that the 630 and 635 are exactly the same besides the years they were made. I am not sure though. i am hoping someone can clarify this for me.

Adrian -I dont use the HDMI switching and I probably won't use it. I have never done it in the past either. So having the reciever that has the ability to do HDMI switching means very little to me. What means a lot to me is sound quality and system synergy. 50wpc on that HK is rated with ALL channels driven which IMO, means more than 2 channels driven with other recievers.

Jag--- Let me know how it works out!
