Well this will get some people stirring no doubt.

From a HT Mag review (lab test sections) the "all power driven" ratings of the H/K is actually above that of the Yammy (in 5 channel mode, since the 147 is not a 7 channel receiver). Of course the Yammie is loads more powerful when pushed harder, but at typical (reasonable) listening levels the H/K is a force to be reconed with; especially at that price point.

Links to the lab results are here:

Of course I realize they are in very different categories as far as receivers go but hey those H/K units really shine in delivering quality power and are very reserved as far as power ratings go.

I really hope Tom, Clint or Gene review some of the new H/K offerings. Many look at the H/K units as low powered and overpriced receivers. They really just rate the units conservatively (no BS) and don't tend to have the marketing penetration that others do.

This was in no way meant to bash Yamaha, only to open some eyes and raise some eye brows.

Having used both over the years, I prefer HK to Yamaha, especially when using JBLs. If everything else being equal, I'd get the HK just for the Logic 7 post processing. When it comes to watching moves, the L7 just blows away DD, most noticed in the dialog.

For some reasons the RX-V receivers did not get good results in their ACD tests by HT mag but did much better in the S&V tests.

In fact S&V tested a HK (I think it was the 330) that shutdown in the 4 ohm test at very low output level. I posted the link before. I tend to rely more on the British magazines such as:

They seem to be more consistent. Of course we can all rely on the Audioholics Bench Mark Performance Tests but they typically do not pay too much attention on the ACD ratings, for good reasons in my opinion.

That being said, no doubt the 147 turned out surprisingly good numbers compared to other models tested by HT mag on its bigger/older brothers such as the 340 and 630. Those units turned out lower numbers than the Elite and Denon models in the same price brackets. They are conservatively rated but at the end of the day it is $/W or W/$ that counts.
