Hi,

I hoping someone could help me with some recommendations on some new floor standing speakers. I am continuing to build home theater setup. I don't have a ton of money to spend but wouuld be willing to put about $800ish into the speakers. I already have a polk center channel, a Velodyne sub and some Mirage rear speakers. Let me know your thoughts.

Thanks!

Unless you are planning on forking over for a new center channel pretty soon, I'd suggest you stay with the same manufacturer/series for the fronts as the center. Something about "timbre matching".

Yep, I would stick with Polk since you already have the center. However, if you find some other speakers that you like, you can always make due with the Polk center until you can get a new matching center. Just more money that way. The key is not to compromise. If you don't like the Polk speakers, you should look elsewhere and get the center later.

BTW, if you have the sub already why not get a set standmounts instead. No real need for floorstanders. Might save enough money to include a new center.

For starters you might look at,

Paradigm
Energy
Boston
Polk
Infinity
Axiom
Rocket
Mirage
B&W
Athena
Cambridge Sound Works
Ascend
PSB

Energy XL-250 Towers...

Since I elected to go without a sub (compromise with wife), my Yamaha receiver channels LFE to these Towers. And I get excellent results...all of the LFE action and no shaking of picture frames on the walls!

The XL-250 Towers are very good for music as well.

You can also audition Yamaha NS-555/777 at Best Buy, they are quite cheap and yet very well made and accurate. Few members here have them and are quite pleased with them.

Without a doubt the best deal going on now is at BestBuy, they have the AS-F2's for $359 a pair. I have a pair reserved for pickup tomorrow. Apparently they are on clearance.

These do not sound all that bad and like he said the Yamaha NS-555/777 are a decent speaker aswell. No comparison to my NS-1000M dual pair but can't buy those new anymore and much higher than the 800ish you stated.
Klipsch also makes timbre matched center channel and surround speakers that will fit in your budget. Your sub should keep you happy and the neighbors annoyed for years to come.
