GRRR! Hsu discontinues TN-1220

I'm really bummed at this! Hsu has abandoned the cylinder form they popularized and switched to making only powered box subs. The TN-1225 was discontinued last year, and they recently announced the TN-1220 has been axed, too.

I don't know about you guys, but I'll never use a powered sub in my main rig. A sub enclosure is a lousy place to stick an amp! There's extra heat and vibration to contend with which is not good for an amp. Think about it for a moment- how long do most vendors warrant the driver? And how long will they warrant the amp? Now you're starting to see.

This pretty much leaves Adire, SVS & VMPS as the only makers of passives I can think of, off the top of my head. Regardless of the performance of the boxes, I think it's a damn shame we no longer have the slender, space saving tubes.

Well, my Denon receiver/amp has a 2 year warranty which is where most manufacturers are, and my pw-2200 sub has 3 years on the amp. The driver has a 5 year but still, the warranty on the amp on my sub is 1 year longer then my receiver. But I know what you will say, there is more to go wrong then just the power supply within the receiver. It would be nice if sub manufacturers could match the driver warranty with the amp that powers it.

Hsu warrents the driver in their box subs for 7 years, but the amp for only 2. That should give one a rough idea how long they expect it to last. I really love the way you can use any amp for the TN (assuming it can drive 4 ohms).

It really bums me out, too, that they gave no warning. One day, BAM! they were gone. Anyone who bought the amp + 1 sub planning to buy a 2nd one when the could afford the upgrade is now SOL.
