Grotto Subwoofer Enclosure for Sale

I have a nice Martin Logan Grotto sub, however the main back plate decided to die. I sent it back to ML, but it's toast. I don't want to pay for a new back plate, so now I have an enclosure that needs a new home. It's kind of random, so I'll take a fair offer. I even have the original box for nice shipping. I'm in Los Angeles. The sub is about 8-9 years old now but in great shape otherwise.

That is a servo sub, so the original amp has to be used. Before anybody buys this you will need to come clean on what Martin Logan quoted you for repair. If it was not worth it to you, then I doubt it is worth it to a purchaser.

I suspect your unit is worthless, pending further information from you.

Not sure that "come clean" was the right way to put it, but I digress. I have no idea what else someone would do with this w/o the back plate, to be honest, hence my comment about this being a random item for sale.

Anyway, the back plate retails for $730 (which is insane) but they said they'd sell it to me at wholesale, which is $426 plus $15 shipping.

If this enclosure is of no use to anyone, do you have a helpful suggestion as to what I could do with it? Tossing it in the trash is a sad option.

The problem is that this sub has a servo sensor on the woofer and a circuit in the plate amp that reacts to that signal to continuously equalize the woofer.

So the speaker is no good without the plate amp and the plate amp is no good without that speaker.

If you replaced the speaker and used a standard plate amp, you would have little bass form an enclosure that small.

My advice is that if you can't find someone who would like the unit just for shipping and buy a replacement plate amp from Martin Logan, then that is your best solution. However I doubt you will have a taker, but I could be wrong.

Failing that it needs to go to a recycling center. Do not put it in the trash.

If there are no bites let me know. I have little use for it now, but it might come in handy someday. *shrugs* Depending on where you live in LA, I'd be willing to pick it up so you don't have to deal with tossing it...
