grand wega audio output to a receiver

Hi,
I have searched the forums to try to find a similar problem, so I do not
duplicate it, and have not found one. My problem is this. There is an audio
out (red and white) on the Grand Wegas, that is supposed to be for hooking
it up to a receiver. The manual says you have to go to the "audio" menu and turn off the speakers of the Grand Wega for this to work which I have done,
and I cannot get any input to the receiver. When I hook the receiver to
the DVD players audio outputs it works fine, so I know the receiver is working.
Has anyone out there used this feature? It is possible that the outputs are
not functioning, and I may have to have it serviced, or am I missing something?.. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks, Tim

I do not know the specifics of your tv's audio but on mine I have left the tv's internal speakers per my wife's request. She uses the tv's speakers when watching the news before work so not to wake me up. She also says it is easier for her than powering up the ht system.

On my set their is a setting in the audio section that simply says "speakers: on/off".

Why are you using the "red/white" composite? cables instead of the digital, either coax or optical, cable?

Are you using a cable box?
What receiver are you using?
Have you tried other input connections on your receiver?
A bit more info is needed for better responses.

I'd check the user manual to see if volume controls the output on those RCA jacks. Is it possible that you simply need more volume on the TV or that the mute may have been on? (I know, basic stuff).

Also recheck your connections to make sure you are connected to the audio OUTOUTS of the TV instead of one of the inputs.

My TV has the same audio section as yours, which allows you to turn off the
speakers and simply says, "speakers: on/off". and the manual says you
need to turn these speakers off in order to use the "audio output".
I want this output to go to my Realistic receiver through the auxillary
input. I have tried the other inputs as well, and none of them work for
the TV, but work for other inputs with no problem. The receiver is an old
one and only has the 2 phono type plug (red and white) inputs on it.
I currently have a Dish 622 HD DVR which I love. There are other ways
I can get the audio to the receiver, but this "audio out" connector is
supposed to work on a Grang Wega, and mine does not. I am beginning
to think it may be bad. I would like to know if anyone out there is using
this output on their Grand Wega and it actually does work.

I do not have a Grand Wega, but an older 27" Wega. To get sound out to my receiver I had to turn off the internal speakers, then select another option to turn on the line out.

To do this I had to go into the expanded menu from the standard menu.

Hope this helps...

Edit: This also sets a standard line out volume level. Otherwise you may just have to turn up the volume on your tv after connecting it.

The spkrs. in the TV must be off to use the inputs on the receiver or amp. Read the audio set up in the manual, & you should have no problem.

For anyone who needs this for future reference, here it is.
The speakers in the "audio" menu need to be turned off.
Also in the audio menu, as soon as you turn the speakers off,
it enables the "audio out" menu, and that has 2 options, variable
and fixed. Switch it to fixed, and out come the sound out of the "audio out"
jacks. Great sound coming out of my woofers now...smile...Thanks to all.
