Sony confirms several big-named titles getting 3D update this summer.
by Jim Reilly

April 2, 2010 - Sony will have several big name PlayStation 3 titles ready this summer when the company plans to launch its major 3D initiative.

As seen on the latest episode of Qore, a subscription-based, monthly show on PlayStation Network, Gran Turismo 5, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, and many other titles will all be getting a 3D update.

The episode gives fans a quick lesson on what they'll need to prepare for 3D. The list includes: A 3D-ready TV that supports the HDMI 1.4 standard, a pair of active-shutter 3D glasses, and of course the PlayStation 3 firmware update that enables 3D playback.

Here is the list of games getting 3D updates so far, according to the Qore video:

Gran Turismo 5
Killzone 2
LittleBigPlanet
WipEout Fury
Super Stardust HD
Invincible Tiger: The Legend of Han

Sony said to expect to hear more announcements about other titles going 3D soon. It's worth pointing out that Gran Turismo 5 may be set for release this summer if Sony is already highlighting the game as one of its big 3D titles for when the firmware update goes live.

Sony did confirm at GDC that Gran Turismo 5 will be released this calendar year but did not specify what quarter.
