Got Paradigm studio 40 V3 now what?

Hi all,

I just brought Paradigm Studio 40 V3s for a decent deal as my front mains. Probably will be going for Paradigm studio CC-570 V3 (tough to find CC-470s these days).

For the side and rear surrounds I am stumped. I never had experience with setting up a surround system other than the all in one home theater system from Onkyo which sounds like crap. The ADP's are hard to get on the used market. I think why not go for studio 20's or cut the cost a little and go to Paradigm titans if that is not much of a compromise or heck just get couple of pair of surrounds from AperionAudio : http://tinyurl.com/2rtzv7 , are they good or I must match my Paradigm fronts with Paradigm surrounds?.

Any advice from folks who went through this grueling dilemma and came out shinning will be much appreciated. Btw I am going for a 7.1 surround with 60% music and 40% movie split. The living room is quite small and I prefer not to put too many stands.

I have a full surround of Paradigms... I am very happy with, sound is outstanding. Go with the bigger center channel... you won't regret it.

As far as surrounds, I have a 6.2 setup with Studio 20's for my sides, and I bought a single ADP for my rear surround, which is spectacular, and fills in the small amount of rear channel sound that you need... there is an extremely small amount of movies that are truly recorded in 6.1 DD, and even a smaller amount recorded in 7.1, so IMO you don't need to dump a ton of money in the rear surround as opposed to the side surround, which is much more important.
If possible you can save some money by doing a 6.1 instead of 7.1.

I really like direct radiating speakers for side surround, but it also depends on your room layout.... with mine my screen is in a corner and rear surround is in a corner. Either way, I think a single ADP in the rear can serve quite well, if you can get your hands on just one....

FYI,
I think someone has a single ADP for sale in the forum.
Based on the Dolby and THX recommended setups, I thought a dipole or bipole type speaker would be more appropriate for the side surrounds and direct radiators for the rears. If you have walls on each side, then it will be easier to mount an ADP to the wall than a large bookshelf speaker like the Studio 20. If stands are an option then the 20's show up frequently on audiogon.

ADP's on Paradigms website are suggested for either sides or rears or both...

I was also leary about putting it behind me, but my perticular situation had its merits, firing directly off the corner walls behind me... and I mean directly in the corner. I seriously love what it does for my setup... My layout is just weird.

If your rear wall is some distance from your seating position, then by all means the 20's should & would work great. I have my Studio 20's wall mounted... B-Tech BT77 speaker mounts..
Those are the best avail. period... don't waste your time with anything else period.

and jcpanny is correct about the single ADP for sale here, it is mine.
ADP-590 .v4
It was a package deal with the open box, but never used speaks.
They are perfect....

ADP's are quite out of my range and are old ones are hard to come by. I think most people recommend bookshelves for rears and surrounds if one is more is interested in music rather than movies.

I am wondering I should try Titans any comments?

If you already own Titans, absolutely give them a try. My first surrounds were Paradigm Atoms matched with the Studio 20's. It was a budget restriction issue at the time, but they worked great with no regrets.

I've used Titans as surrounds before too. They should work fine. You can find 20s used all the time too, so just keep an eye out for them.

wall mount Paradigm studio 20s?

ok guys I am fixed on getting a pair of 20s to finish my 5.1 before upping to 7.1 , I am considering wall mounting the 20s with B-Tech BT77 UltraGrip Pro , has any one done that before?.

Does keeping studio 20 close to the wall will affect its bass performance?, so I have heard.

They should be fine it appears they are front ported and IMO that's the perfect design for placement near or up against a wall. :)

If you are buying used the v2 20's are rear ported so they could not be wall mounted. The v3 and v4 are front ported so they in theory they could wall mounted. Acoustically, I can't speak on wall mount or not. Check our what the manual suggests.
