I got receiver Yamaha RX-V375 and Pioneer SP-BS22-LR Bookshelf Loudspeakers.

I have 46'' TV and I have the speakers sitting beside TV. The speakers are about 4-5 feet apart.

When listening to TV shows or even a movie and music the voices seems shallow/hollow.
When using the TV sound by itself I never had a issue like this before.

TV speakers are turned off like they are suppose to when using a ext setup. I actually tried using the TV sound with my setup the sound was totally not in sync.

The bookshelf's speakers are connected to the left and right banana posts, like the manual says to hook them up. Wires are hooked up correctly.

Is it because the speakers are to close or do I just need to add a center ?

What is the best minimum setup to get ? The bookshelf speakers I got and the center ? I won't be able to buy than one more piece and I don't have the room for a 5.1 so don't suggest it. Plus the bass I get from these bookshelf speaker already plenty I wouldn't want any more.

I hope I didn't miss represent my problem, the sound is good and clear. It's just that dialog is weak sometimes and seems shallow.

I've read in diff places that if you have a good two channel setup with good speakers that the two speakers can create a good center ghost piece. But I guess not in my case. I have good speakers but I'm just not getting good strong dialog sound it seems to me. I can't move my speakers any further apart than they are now 4-5 feet.

Just odd that the TV two built in speakers had decent TV sound in all the ranges except in bass and my new two channel setup I have now has incomplete sound.

By the way, my BD & HD-DVR are connected to the receiver with HDMI both, and then HDMI out from the receiver to the TV. Thats it no other cables.

I need to get this setup sounding right or I'll just return everything and not look back. thanks

Sounds like you need to add the center. Sometimes phantom center isn't enough for some people. The best way to rectify the problem is to add a center.

Adding a center is probably the way to go but you could try positioning the speakers a bit differently first. You might be surprised by how much of a difference speaker placement can make. That said, I've been using 2 bookshelf speakers for years and a sub in my HT but I'm finally getting ready to take the plunge and go 3.1 like you describe.

Can you move you speakers a little bit forward - the front baffle/plane, needs to be
a little forward of the TV - and not be blocked on the sides facing the TV >> also a
little toe-in can help.

All in all, a new Pioneer center would be a good option.

It's doing this on all sources on BD/CD/TV shows, Just odd that the TV two built in speakers had decent TV sound in all the ranges except in bass and my new two channel setup I have now has incomplete sound. I get the feeling there's nothing wrong and I just need the center. Is that a the best setup by the way ? I was hoping it would great/complete with a two channel setup. I read people say all the time that the center is probably the most important single speaker. If I get a center to go with my bookshelf speakers that should give me the complete range. Does that mean then my setup would be called a 3.0 channel then ? Did I make the right decision in getting the bookshelf speakers and possible get a center now, is this a good match ? These bookshelf have plenty of bass to them too.

Have you checked your speaker set up menu, to make sure center is not clicked yes. You should just check yes, to right and left main, and the sub if you have one.

With the speakers that close together you should not need a center. The fact is a lot of speakers have poor voice clarity. So if the problem persists with correct set up, return those speakers and get some better ones. There are far and away more lousy speakers than good ones.
