Star Trek on Blu-ray never looked so good!

Not much left to get for my system now. Just have to finish up repairing my JVC HR-S9911U, get an Oppo BDP-83 (for DVD-A & bitstreaming HD formats), get a 40"-46" LCD or Plasma TV, and some better speakers and I'll finally be finished. Okay, maybe a little more left than I originally thought....

As a footnote, I played back my Dark Side of the Moon SACD on the PS3 today and did some careful sound comparisons with the CD layer. It's very easy to do on the PS3 in the main menu. It's true.... SACD is warmer, like a clean cassette... very nice. The CD layer was more "artificially bright" I guess would be a close description. I know you all probably know all of this already, but I felt like sharing this with you nonetheless.

Congrats on the PS3!

I recently got an SACD player, myself. I quite like it. :)

I've had an SACD player for a few years now, but I was unable to switch back and forth a specific track from the different layers so conveniently without having to stop the CD altogether first to do the comparison. Pretty nifty. ;)

The biggest addition though is finally jumping on the Blu-ray ship. Man, Star Trek looked stunning! If you don't own Star Trek on Blu-ray, you should even if you don't like Star Trek, just for the stunning visuals. Star Trek on Blu-ray was THE reason I went to Blu-ray.

Oh, and it plays games too.... even my PS2 games.

I have 4 SACD players now, including my original 60G PS3 (not working).

I haven't played a PS2 game in almost 3 years, even though I have some around still, because even upscaled, they don't look nearly as good as PS3 games.

Congrats for your ps3! I love the HD when connecting it to my plasma and the upscaling to standard DVDs. You must take advantage of those features.

Thanks guys. I've definitely been enjoying it. Now just have to get the final pieces complete. It's coming along... hopefully by summer both systems will be done. It's been a long time coming.

I'll say congrats on the PS3 and some advice since I've had 2 die on me now make sure that you stand it vertically if you can and I'm going to get some fans for it when I get my refurb

Just curious why you have to have it stand vertically. I have had mine for a year now wiht no problems and it is sitting flat on an audio pier. Perhaps yours in in a cabinet.

My ps3 is an original lauch model and I had it for 1.5 years before it died on me the first time. It is on a shelf that is 8inches tall and about 20 inches wide with no front or back on it. It also stands in the middle of my bedroom so it not against a wall in the back. My refurb died 6 months after I got it and now after me complaining Sony is giving me another out of warranty.

I heard various places online that standing it vertically will give the best heat dispersion bc the fan pulls air from the front to the back and there is also a vent on top so if you stand the unit up then it will naturally vent out of the top as well.
