I just wanted to make sure the setup I'm planning on using is going to work well. I'm going to plug my mp4 player into a "Y" splitter, and send one signal to my receiver with a pair of speakers, and the other signal to my sub. Now the sub has 1/4 inputs and the Y cable has 1/8 outputs so i will have to get an adapter, and that's pretty much it. Will this setup work decently? Thanks.

Using a splitter will Half the voulme going into the reciever and sub.
It will work but may not get a loud as you want.

hmmm, that's kind of a downer. Is there any other option I have that wouldn't halve the volume?

Yes...Just use the receiver and use the 2nd speaker out for the sub ( thats if you have 2 sets )

So if the receiver has A/B outputs, turn both of them on? But isn't it bad to run an amplified signal through another amplifier? Also, if using both the A/B outputs would work, wouldn't the speakers and the sub all have to be the same impedance? Thanks for the help.

I don't think it will halve the voltage. It's a voltage input to the receiver and the sub, and the voltage will not drop in half, only the current will.

I think the setup will be fine.

I said Volume not Voltage !!

What do you think a PRE Amp does ?
besides if your Subwoofer takes speaker inputs you will be Fine. If it takes line input only then use PRE OUT Or subwoofer out ...not line out. ( assuming you have 2 sets of pre amp outs )

But if the voltage at the input doesn't change, neither does the volume!!
But a splitter will decrese the volume output.
When both sides are loaded down.

Don't beleave me ??
Try it ! :)
