Hello.
Should I get a Stereo Reciever or Home Theater Reciever? I will be using it for playing a lot of music and watching movies.

It will cost you less in getting a good AV receiver compared to a stereo receiver. You don't have to use all the surround receiver's amplifiers in any case.

Have you bought the speakers? If so, what are they? Brand and Model

What will be your approximate sitting distance from the speakers?

Thanks for your replies. I have a total of 5 klipsch wall mounted speakers and subwoofer. Right now I have an older yamaha aventage receiver with no hdmi connections. I also have speakers run the through my current receiver to my backyard.

Should you want a new receiver with HDMI and 4K handling, an excellent bargain would be the following Denon AVR-X3400H:

Do you need a phono stage in the receiver or can you handle that externally? Usually for an avr these days you need a higher end model to still get a phono section included, otherwise you'd need an external one.....

Yes. In would need a phono input to connect my turntable. I do have the ion usb turntable but I dont know how reliable it would be and I don't think theres a connection option for this.

Looking at a couple Ion usb tt's on their site it appears they have a built in phono stage, says not to use phono level inputs. Which model do you have?

A good external phono preamp would be a lot cheaper than having to pay for a flagship AVR.

If it's for use with a moving magnet cartridge, the Schiit brand represents a good affordable preamp.

If you need phono for mm cartridges, the $899 AVR-X4400H should be on you list.
