Hello all, well I am really new to anything audio pretty much but I was told by my "mentor" to look up high efficiency speakers. I will also look them up other places but I figured I should ask some experts, or atleast people that I'm sure are way more experienced then me. So if you could post brands that are high efficiency that would be great. Thx in advance :D

Start with Klipsch Heritage Series......try to find some good used one's.
Cornwall, Belles, Chorus, LaScala, Forte or a smaller Heresey with a decent sub. There are others but these are hard to beat low WPC will make them play accurate and soild.

Let the list of other brands begin.:)

HE means speakers would be louder with same amp or would take lesser amp to drive to same volume. that's about it. They are good in some cases, but hardly a generic recommendation. I find a majority of better speakers are inefficient and hard to amplify.

Anyways - what's your budget ,what are you looking for and how big is the room?

What's the goal here?

Efficiency refers to a speakers ability to put out more volume with less power but it has no bearing on how "good" a speaker sounds. That's like looking for cars based purely on their mileage rating.

i.e. There are many efficient speakers but their sound does not float my boat. And power is not the expensive thing it once was.

But, efficiency is one of the three main critria in designing speakers. to wit:

1) You can have efficiency.

2) You can have deep, extended bass.

3) You can have a physically small enclosure.

But, the law of physics says you cannot have all three. Two, perhaps, but not three.

So, I guess you might find out from your mentor what he's shooting for.

 he did not post the word generic............not many brands are more "Efficient" then the Klipsch speakers I posted. A SET 10watt amp will drive a used Forte loud enough to hurt your ears. Buy them used $500.00 or less.

No argument here my friend ... my small monitors are probably as loud as my big towers due to active power - they are very efficient :D

I have an old pair of Klipsch Herseys from the early 70s on my basement system running of an older Kenwood receiver. Trust me, they can out blast any noisy machinery that I might have running.

Good list, grant.

Be wary of the more audiophoolery inclined brands. There's some high priced stuff out there that cheap, used Klipsch Cornwalls would just walk all over. Zu comes to mind. They charge a lot for some pretty unspectacular performing speakers.

Paradigm's Monitor and Signature lines are both pretty efficient now. Although I don't really care for the sound of the Monitor line speakers and the Signature line speakers are pretty darn pricey :p

Goldenears

The goldenears are getting a lot of attention right now and they sound very good. An easy speaker to drive. About $2500 a pair.

In general, HE simply means a speaker with a sensitivity in the range of 90dB or higher.
