we watched THE BUCKET LIST a few weeks back. we really liked it.
i went to netflix to find more like it. i was suprised to find they had it listed as a comedy. and i found that i could not judge, or perhaps, find, good comedies from what i clicked.

anyway. i am looking for GOOD comedies.

thanx

I thought Bottle Rocket was hilarious. However, having seen it a couple of times at my place, people seemed to either love it, or . . . not love it. Look up the director's other works, and you might know how the chances are. I might be somewhat biased too, because it looks beautiful on the Criterion release.

Juno was pretty funny. I thought Hancock had some moments too. I haven't seen Bucket List, thanks for the reminder.

A comedy is anything with a happy ending. So sometimes dramatic films will be comedies as well. Though these days we are seeing humorous films classified there.

I think the list of good ones depends on how tired you are, your sense of humor, and your BAL.

Some of my favorites are Old School, Naked Gun, Airplane, Officespace, Happy Gilmore. I can't really peg a funniest film for me because it depends on mood.

Dumb and Dumber is so stupid it makes me laugh just writing about it. It always makes my top 5 greatest comedies.:D:D

Little-known British comedy Death at a Funeral. Hilarious and it features Wash from Firefly!

Oh, and check out Top Secret! which features a young Val Kilmer. Might've been his first starring role, I think.

cheers,

That movie is a classic. I remember Jim interviewing with Leno about the movie and saying his favorite part was the one in a million scene.

Blazing Saddles is one that many may find offensive today, as the humor is from a different era. It was hilarious when I was a kid, but I think I like Young Frankenstine more now. History of the World Pt1 is also a good Mel Brooks film. I didn't think Spaceballs was that great.

I'll add:
The Jerk
Tommy Boy

Death at a Funeral had me rolling on the floor. It was directed by Miss Piggy, AKA Frank Oz, and is one of those movies that I can watch over and over. I must admit that I'm a sucker for Brit comedy involving upper crust people being undone.

To that I'd add Little Miss Sunshine, Clerks, Hot Fuzz, Lars and the Real Girl, Humpday, The Invention of Lying and, in the theaters now, A Serious Man (latest from the Coen Bros) and Men Who Stare At Goats, a very Coen-like film featuring the Clark Gable of our day, George Clooney.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Just got done watching it for the first time in a few years, and it's still hilarious.
