Hey guys,

My dad has a set of Klipsch Forte II's paired up with an Onkyo TX-866. He is looking to set up a surround sound system in the living room and I was curious what you might suggest for a good receiver to match those speakers in the $800 or less category. He really likes the receiver he has and he listens to 75% music/25% movies. What is really nice about the Onkyo he has is it has regular bass/treble controls, but i also has a sliding control for spartial enhancement and bass enhancement. He likes those features, so I was thinking of possibly adding a ht receiver and using his Onkyo as a seperate amp for his stereo listening with the Klipsch to it. Would that be the best way to accomplish what he is looking to do or would he be better off adding a seperate pre-amp/amp for surround sound to the onkyo (just don't know if that could be accomplished for $800). Thank for your help, have a good christmas!!

in that price range, the Denon 2805, Yamaha RX-V2500, and the Onkyo 801 would all be good choices..

the Denon probably has better music and mid-range.. it would do a good job of toning down the Klipsch's.

the Yammy has so many DSP modes and an internal equalizer that it can be adapted to nearly anyone's personal taste.. but they do have a reputation for high freq stuff, as do the Klipsch (especially the more recent models with the horn tweeters.. don't know if that's an issue for you)... adding the two together might make a very bright sound

Onkyo's main advantage over the others is their handling of computer-based music..

the older Onkyo would still be of good use in the bedroom or home office.
