Goo Systems Paint

I've heard some good things about this "screen" paint. Has anybody had first had experience with this? This stuff isn't cheap, about $200.00 (CDN) for 1 litre.

I was thinking of going this route, but my very first thought was to just use normal white acrylic paint with some grey or silver tinting. This would be a much cheaper alternative. But I'm wondering if the Goo Systems paint will be dramatically better.

I would appreciate any input.

That's almost as much as a pull-down screen from Da-Lite. I wonder what the gain is supposed to be on that stuff. The price seems a little bit much to be honest.

Yes hawke, you raise a good point.

After the initial post, I did some more research and found one site where they performed a head to head comparison between screens from various manufacturers and goo systems paint. Overall, the Goo stuff did very well and if my memory servers me correctly, even beat out some screens.

Some people may not want to hassle of mounting a screen or are concerned about wear and tear, among other reasons.

Apparently there is a formula called Mississippi Mud which mimics the Goo paint and its a combination of 4 paints (Behr) from Home Depot. Suppose to be equivalent and much, much, cheaper (~40 bucks in total). I think I'll try it out.

Bottom Coat: 1 quart of Behr "Silver Metallic" Top Coat: 1 quart of Behr Deep Base (1300) $8.99 1 quart of Behr Ultra Pure White Flat "Ceiling" $8.99 2 quarts of Behr "White Opal" Perlescence $17.99 1 "1/96th oz" particle droplet of Red Oxide* All Paints are Flat Latex Paint the bottom coat with 2 layers of Silver Metallic so it covers evenly. You might even need 3 layers. Wet sand, then apply top coat. Paint the top coat with 2 thin layers - so you can still see a little silver coming through. Then wet sand. Finally apply the top coat so you can't really see the silver. The screen now looks white.

I tried this mix and the result was a pinkish white screen. It that normal? Will the pink tone disappear after the paint is fully dried?
