Hello all. This is my first post here on audioholics. But Ive been reading for quite some time. My question is regarding the placement of my speakers in my particular room dimensions. My room is unfortunately square-ish in shape. The dimensions are 130 inches length x 129 inches width. The back of my speakers are facing the 129 inch wall and fire along the 130 inch wall. So technically, it is rectangular. I used cardas's golden ratio calculator on the website to place the speakers. They ended up being close to the middle of my room, which is really odd. Im having trouble with my listening position because the optimal is so close to the wall, which is where my bed is. If I sit at my computer desk, my ears are super close to the face of the speakers, which diminishes the soundstage, bass, and overall fullness of the sound. My main question is should I keep my speakers where they are or use the sqaure room method?

Hey, Eyedrop. Glad that you decided to post. IMHO, you should experiment and place them where you like them the best. Start with the guidelines, but when they don't work out, feel free to diverge and find what works for you. Sometimes room dimensions and/or our furniture won't allow us to follow the "golden" rules of speaker placement, so just do what ends up sounding good to you.

Ive set it up by ear and measured so they are symetrical. I understand that the ratio sometimes wont aesthetically work. But when its perfectly measured to the golden ratio, it just sounds so good. Much better than where I originally had them placed.
