I have a few questions, first one is, I am going to a stereo store that has a big display of home theater speakers set up. I was going to take my 2 Mirage 360 speakers with me in search for something a bit better without spending a fortune, would they hook them up and do a comparison so I get something better and not go backwards. If anyone has heard the Mirage 360 15yrs old, just refoamed them. is it smart just to get 2 new fronts or since I already have a sub, or get 5 new speakers my current surrounds and front is a Sony set that I bought 15ys ago also. I took the cover off the front center channel it has (2) 4 inch speakers and the rears have (1) 4 inch speaker. any thoughs, what is a good recommendation for 5 new speakers, anything on sale now that are rated good.

Good call on taking your old speakers to compare to new ones. It will give you an idea of how much improvement you can expect. Where are you planning on looking for new gear? Do you have a budget in mind? If money is tight, I don't see anything wrong with keeping your rears and the sub. I would get matching fronts and center channel though. On the flip side, sometimes a package deal is worth it for the discount. Have you thought about finding what you want and looking for the same thing used?
