Going nuts here!!!

I have a DVD player (Sony DVP-NS50P) hooked up to my receiver (Yamaha HTR-6050) using this cable http://www.monoprice.com/products/product.asp?c_id=102&cp_id=10236&cs_id=1023603&p_id=2683&seq=1&format=2

I go in the DVD menu and select DD5.1 playback, yet it plays in my mains only. I select STRAIGHT on my AVR and the little PCM light is on. What am i doing wrong here?

Try going into the DVD player's setup menu (not disc menu) and select Raw or Bitstream if you can.

Agreed. Raw and Bitstream are the keywords you'll need to look for in the DVD player's Setup menu. You may already know this, but make sure the disc is fully stopped to enter the main Setup Menu for the player.
