I've tried them and they work great. I like them better than the compression type. Once you lock them down, they create a very solid connection.

GLS Audio Gen II Plugs

Found these at an Ebay store. 28 (for 7 speakers > receiver) for $70.

Has anyone tried these? Cheaper alternative?

If you need that many, it may be worth it,$2.83 each, including shipping. Easy to remove, and as Tom said, makes a solid connection:D

The ONLY downside I have seen is that you have to ensure the connectors aren't touching each other (obviously) cause they will short out. For example, on the Yamaha receivers, the Presence channel connections might allow them to touch, shutting down the receiver. On a plastic connector with center conductor pin this won't happen.

Do you all use these banana jacks for speaker wire INTO your speakers or out of teh receiver?
I have speakers (Onkyo) that don't have banana jacks on the back of them, the wire just slides into a hole with a hold down type of thing.

I use these connectors on all the cables I make. The set screws are heavy duty. Use the aft set screw to clamp down on the wires insulation and for forward set screw to clamp down on the speaker wire.

Contrary to what Clint said, there is no worry about shorting them. I use them on a Yamaha RX-V1400 and have no problems, even with eleven speakers conected - but I'm not using them for the presence speakers as they are spring clips.

I use those connectors and they work flawlessly...well designed and well machined.

They should work fine but PERSONALLY I prefer pure copper and gold plating rather than cheap brass and nickel.

The pin half is gold plated and the cap half is anodized.

I was very disapointed in the Atlona's. I wanted to try a side-entry configuration, and these claim to accept 12 to 18 gauge wire. I was using 14 gauge, but the gap between the brass "spacer" and the end of the connector was so large the wire just fell out. If I doubled up some 12 gauge, it seemed to hold pretty well. But for anything smaller, that little spacer is just too short.

The GLS are great.

Banana plugs

I use Banana plugs for quick disconnect on my portable PA sound system.
Over time then plug can lose it's tension will easily come out of the female banana jack.
For my home system I strip the wire, twist it and insert it into the hole on the side of the binding post and lock it down. John

For a quick and easy fix, you can spread the tensioning piece apart, where it meets itself (wraps around) with a screwdriver, and give a little sideways twist to add tension back to it. If that didn't fully make sense, just look at the plug and I think you can see what I mean. Anyway, I did this on a plug that I got from Blue Jeans that just fell out of the speaker. I didn't want to bother returning the plug, and have to wait a week or so for the replacement. Works fine now, solid connection.

I got the GLS Locking plugs and found it much easier to first splay the pin before plugging it in. Gives a very solid connection and there is no way for it to come loose. On the down side, one time I had to unhook the speakers and it was an effort getting the plugs out. On second thought, thats not much of a down side at all...:D
