Anybody picked this up yet? Package says dolby digital- no dts on this dvd. Extra footage and "making of" stuff added it too. So what's the big deal? Is it worth a double dip?

You can check out The Digital Bits review here:

Here is a quote from the review:

"Gladiator is an undeniably great film... and it's now made even better with this new 3-disc DVD release. The new Scott/Crowe commentary, the extended cut of the film and the completely engrossing documentary offered here are WAY more than enough to justify the cost of adding this set to your DVD collection. Our advice is to pony up the greenbacks for this new edition and just be damn glad you've been given the chance to do so. We sure as hell are."

I guess if you are a huge fan of the film or are interested in some extended scenes and you would like to listen to the new commentary, then go for it. Like you said, there is no DTS track on this release. This was discussed in some length here:

Thanks for the heads up. After reading reviews and comments, my money will be going towards one of the many other good dvds to be released in the next few months. No double dipping for me on Gladiator.

That would be my recommendation. Maybe a rental, but after sitting through it (bought it), I can't say it was much improved over the original version.

I am really tired of edition after edition of these DVDs. I will buy a movie once, and if something better comes out, it had better be significantly better to make me spend more of my $$$ on a rehash of the same film with more deleted scenes or commentary. Sort of reminds me of the Lucas fiasco with the Star Wars films. He is releasing the originals yet again in another box set.

Yeah last night I found out that the Mask Of Zorro is being release.....again.....this time with FREE TICKETS to "the legend of zorro" to be released Oct 28 in theaters...didn't see anything special about the release itself....so ....no double dipping on that one for me....already have the director's "spec edition" in dd/dts and I love that movie. A ticket to the movie would be cheaper than buying the dvd for a "freebie" ....do the mfgs really think consumers don't stop and think about that?!

On the other hand....Batman (Michael Keaton 1&2) is coming out in DTS ...drool....drool.....since I don't have a copy...that makes the "to buy" list.
