Got this off netflix and I liked it a lot. Another unexpected movie from Sweden (the former for me being Let the Right One In, remade and released in the US as Let Me In). Good story, though the pace is slow at times. It is a bit intense in a few scenes since it was obviously not shot for a US audience. There are two main characters and their stories intertwine and eventually converge. Definitely worth a rent.

You can say that again. That's what you call a bit intense? I can just imagine what might have gone on Friday nights in the Garcia home 20 years ago. Somebody call an ambulance cause the injured are still wandering the California coast line ... bleeding! :p :D

Back to the movie: The back story makes the 'intense' scenes valid. They belong in the movie and work well in the big picture. This might be a keeper for Jostenmeat (visits Europe) and Haraldo (Scandinavian closet S&M freak). For the rest of the foreign film viewing market it's a very good rental.

I thought the movie was alright. It was a bit blown up for me pre-viewing, but this is becoming nearly commonplace for me. However, it seems that people who have been reading the books are following the series more avidly.

Hurt Locker was too "blown up" for me. If I didn't hear any of the hoopla, I probably would have enjoyed it much more.

The last viewing at my place was A Prophet. A French film about prison (gang) life, Corsicans and Arabs. Again, "blown up" for me. A couple of friends saying they read reviews that it compares with the Godfather series, and well, no it doesn't. It's a good worthwhile viewing for those who are into this kind of thing, but keep expectations in check.

I finally got Repo Men in from Netflix. I'm about to find out if I never listen to mike c recommendations again. :p

And I finally bought Delicatessen after it was sitting in my cart for weeks. Expensive, but I had to pull the trigger, because there's probably no one else who has been pushing for the Jeunet/Caro collaborations on the boards that I frequent. I would be a hypocrite. Well, the Studio Canal BDs are getting some pretty bad press for their transfers, but fortunately this one is one of the better ones from their less than desirable output.

LOL. I say a "bit" intense, because one man's intense is another man's normal  No, this is NOT normal for the Garcia house...but it is in the film's context so it isn't quite as shocking so to speak, and I agree completely that it fits in perfectly and has everything to do with the story. I've seen much worse in foreign films :) I haven't decided if it is one to add to the shelf or not, but would probably have to be on sale cheap. The interview with the girl who played Lisbeth (pretty hot) was excellent as well.

It wasn't a 5 star title, but it was much better than average. I liked Let the Right One in more than this one, but I enjoyed this one quite a bit too.

Personally I enjoyed a good script and great acting. Always a pleasure to watch good performance from less common actors. C'mon Hollywood - I'm sick with DiCaprio, Damon and Affleck. I beg you - Bring new faces !!

For everyone who enjoyed this movie - FYI:
It's actually a trilogy and two others called:

Girl who Played with Fire
Girl who kicked hornets nest

Both pretty good too

I thought it was pretty good. I like the girl cuz I'm into goth chicks. She got awesome revenge on that parole officer guy.

As SOP for Hollywoood I hear they're doing an American version of this movie and Daniel Craig is supposed to be playing the reporter. I can actually totally see Daniel Craig playing that role.

I liked the movie enough to go by the book. I haven't started reading it though.

My mom sent me the book to read, and, it really didn't look like my thing...but then I saw it on AppleTV and figured I'd watch it for 'cliffnote' purposes.

It was actually pretty good, but left me curious as to why people liked the books so much...so I ended up reading it, which went pretty quick....

I think the loner aspect of Salander appeals to a lot of people. It makes people feel 'less alone' to know that others are the same way, in a sort of paradoxical way. These movies with 'tight nitch' groups of friends tend to be a little unrealistic for most. Just a thought.

I did the Watch Instantly thing so I didn't see that but she did look pretty good at the very end of the film. High heels and stocking are much better that piercings and army boots but after watching her with that (you know) in the movie ... no thanks. Those days are over for me. :D
