So just to start off, my girlfriend rocks. Since we have been dating, I have got her really into home theater (she was already a movie buff). Well her stepdad is a lawyer so he is well off, and a audiophile too. He just upgraded to a Sumsung 42" 1080P flatscreen, so we got the 42" 1080i :)

Well with the TV, we need a nice stand right? Enter BestBuy. Her stepdad hooks it up with a $600 Magnolia stand. Now add my stuff, and here is what you have:

TV

Whole System

Here is the setup
Samsung 1080i 42" Plasma (I'll get the number soon)
Denon AVR-887
JBL E30's
JBL E20's (rear)
JBL EC25 (center)
AV123 X-sub
Playstation 3 60gig
HD Cable

I know right now my speakers are the weakess link. But I got the E30's brand new for $90 shipped, the EC25 for $75, and the E20's for $75.

The system sounds good, but the E30's are lacking compared to my old Paradigms. I am going to save and then maybe try a pair of Axiom M22's or something. Hope you guys like it.

Good looking set-up.
It's always nice to get free stuff, isn't it? :D

And you may be interested to know that the TV may in fact be 1080p: since plasma can not display an interlaced signal (it can receive one, it just can’t display it as interlaced), if the TV native resolution is 1080, you would in fact be watching 1080p…. If it deinterlaces properly. ;)

Good to know. It is a few years old, so I don't know what the specs are. I just spoke with a guy on here (nasd90) who gave me details on installing yellow dog linux in the PS3 and swapping the hard drive. That's my next task.

Nice system,

if you want a much better sound with the JBL's, get the E-50's for L/R & the EC-35 for Center and you'll be done.
Believe you still can get those at a very attractive price though.

Cheers.

Nice system, it must be nice to have someone to "help" you out :) . If the TV is a few years old it is not likely that it is 1080p. Which really isn't an issue unless you have a huge tv in a small room.

Great looking setup. Wish I was the beneficiary of such nice equipment. You may want to hang on to that girl.:)

There are some pretty hard core audioholics that may just try to take her away from you if your not careful.

With all that money you saved, you may want to think about saving up for a REALLY nice set of speakers\subwoofer. Components come and go but a good set of speakers will last you generations.

Enjoy the equipment and the company of your movie buff girlfriend. They are both hard to come by.;)

Yea tell me about it. Her stepdad also gave her 4 bose acoustimass cubes which we are using in the bedroom with my crappy aiwa center channeL (from an old shelf system). She went from "No, no speakers on the end tables" to "We can run the wires under the rug and coffee table then under the couch." I am very lucky :)

Yea my goal I think is gonna be Paradigm Studio 40's (I loved my 20s) and a paradigm center. I can hold off on serious surrounds for now, and the AV123 sub is fine because we are in an apartment.

I've heard of people doing this. Forgive my ignorance, but what is the point of putting Linux on a PS 3?

Just so I can be fat and surf the web on the couch with the big screen. My g/f's desktop is ancient and slow, and my Alienware laptop runs at 10,000 degrees (burns the crouch)

Just make sure you get the Logitech Cordless Media board built specifically for the PS3. You answered the other guys question about why to have Linux installed nicely... In addition, it's always good to broaden your horizons. Though I am new to the audio world, I am an expert in computers/gaming platforms.

Anything under 50 inches, especially on a plasma or lcd your eyes can't tell the difference anyway. The screen has to be 50 inches or larger. 1080 is nice for tv, but crap for computers. That's why computer games will always beat any junk console (though I do own a ps3 & xbox 360 elite). Just wait until Crysis comes out on Directx10 Vista... It will blow the doors off any HDTV set running XBOX360 or PS3... But that's a whole other topic.

Right, unless you are sitting 6 feet away, 1080 on a 42” screen is more resolution then the eye can discern, however, my point was that since a plasma display can only display a progressive picture, it can not be 1080i (but that doesn’t necessarily mean that the TV can accept a 1080p signal). :)

Since you got the TV for free, I'll give you $50 for it! LOL JK! ;) Very nice setup by the way. I've always thought that Samsung makes some of the best looking TV's out there!

Just an update, added an Xbox 360 Elite to the arsenal. I also ordered the Belkin HDMI switcher because it came with 3 free HDMI cables, so now the PS3, Box, and Cable can go into the swticher then into the Receiver.

Depending on how things go after first of the year, speakers may be upgraded soon. Probably AV123s all the way around. Can't afford Paradigm right now.
