Hey folks-

Looking at used amps and I understand the old Adcoms are well regarded and seem to last forever. Any advice regarding the GFA-555 or the GFA-555 MkII? Is the newer unit the better option?

I bought my 555 in 1990, it still looks and sounds like when it was new. I remember Adcom explained what the improvements was in the 555 II but I cannot remember the details other than it was very minor stuff.

The MKII is a small improvement over the original GFA555. All the amps that Adcom has made are an especially good buy on the used market. As you said they last forever. The also have no problems with weird loads (>4 Ohms) or strange capacitance. Several of my audio buddies use Adcom amps to drive speakers such as Quad ESL57, Magneplaner MG1.6Qr, Magneplaner MG3.6R and NHT Super Zero's. Even my own Acoustats work fine on my Adcom. I must admit I use my radically modified Dyna MK3's to drive my primary speakers.
