I saw this over the weekend and I actually had fun watching it. It was incredibly simple and stupid, but I can bear movies like this so long as they're mildly funny. I'm actually a fan of simple comedy. What I can't bear are movies trying to be serious that are poorly put together.

The critics didn't like it, so it's probably a pretty good view.

I went to see this movie Saturday with absolutely no expectations for a good movie. It was somebody else's choice for the evening entertainment.....

But I must admit I was pleasantly surprised. It was quite a decent comedy. Steve Carell played the part perfectly.

Steve Carell could sit and stare at the camera for 2 hours and it would still be funny.

I thought it was hilarious! I laughed my head off the whole way through, and thoroughly enjoyed it.

Of course, I was only able to really enjoy it once I jettisoned my expectations for a Get Smart movie. I expected Steve to play the character that I remembered from the TV show. He didn't. Neither did any of the actors. The only thing this movie has in common with the TV show is the names of the characters, that's it. So when I stopped thinking of it as "the Get Smart movie" and simply as "a spy comedy", I began to enjoy it. Immensely. :)

cheers,

I was (and am) a big fan of the original TV show. I went into the movie with low expectations due to the previews I had seen. I thought the first half was a little slow and I didn't laugh very much. Fortunately though, I thought the second half was very funny. I also appreciated the (few) subtle site gags corresponding to jokes from the TV show. I also liked the cameo from one of the original TV show actors (I won't spoil it by listing a name).

This movie was great for what it was. My wife was hysterical the whole movie. It was certainly more enjoyable than some of the recent flops we've seen.
