Get new or fix old headphones?

I Currently own Foxtex T20RP Headphones and to be honest I quite like them.
Originally got them used for $10 - hella of deal.

Currently the ear pad foam is pretty worn off and honestly needs replacement.

My usage is pretty rare and not critical. I do require at least 10ft cord and standard TSR (not-balanced) jack.

I don't really want to invest tons of money into them, since my portables Shures are already provide me top quality sound and I do use them frequently. And of-course I'm looking for bang-for a buck.

My options are (not limited to)

a) Get replacement foams for $30 (each ? I need both)
b) get new Fostex T20 for $65
c) New Senh HD515 for $50

The are few slightly higher models from Fostex: T40 and T50 for a bit more extra... T50RP especially seems to be getting a lot of praises...

I really like the sound of the Sennheiser 500 series. I listened to the HD 555 but ended up buying the HD 595 when it was on a blow out at $100. I like Sennheisers and it's hard to beat the HD515 at $50. I'm thinking of buying a pair for my daughter to see if I can convince her to listen through them rather than blasting her stereo late at night . . . . . . But I wouldn't bet on it,

I look at headphones like my wife looks at shoes.

The more the merrier and a changeup is good for the soul.

First off, if you can get replacement parts for your Fostex for a reasonable price, go for it.

Second, I'd still go for a new pair just because I can. See line 1.

I don't know about the cord lengths, but I think you might appreciate a pair of Grado's, perhaps the SR-60's which, coincidentally, seems to be their going price. Sennheiser HD-280's for about a C-note are also a good value for enclosed phones.

If you like them, get them fixed. If you don't care, get some new ones. If something was actually damaged beyond the foam or the chord, I'd try to get them repaired. If something is physically damaged, I'd be more inclined to replace.

Sennheiser fan here too.

hmmm... Quite an old thread which got abandoned.. but I do have a few updates:
First: I didn't go for original Fostex pads - $60 for a pair of pads is too rich for my blood, but I did get a pair of nice and compatible Shure pads for much cheaper: Amazon.com: Shure HPAEC840 Replacement Ear Cushions For SRH840 Headphones: Musical Instruments
Second: I use this setup at work and use it daily since i got addicted to Turntable: PC->USB to Behringer UCA202-> RCA OUT (NOT HEADPHONES OUT) to FIIO E5 -> Fostex T20RP
(uca202 (which I already had lying around) headphone amp pretty much sucks, but DAC wise is actually pretty decent)
This setup a breath of fresh air and thou total cost of all upgrades was above expected, the result is really nice and pleasant sound I could listen all day long (if I get a chance :) )

Third: Since it's not a big secret where I am from , using service in UK to "fix" my phones seems a bit counter-intuitive ;)

I didn't notice it was thread necro, but things were slow today :) I have some Senn HD5xx-something-or other that I need foam for, but I haven't honestly used them in a LONG time. I agree the phones didn't sound good with the UCA202.

Currently listening on some Earjax Moxys at work. Got them for $30 shipped; not bad at all for that price (over 50% off).
