A definite recommendation, out on video now, Get Low. Octogenarian Robert Duval does a tour de force as an eccentric hermit hillbilly who comes to town to arrange his own funeral, while he's still alive. Set in the 1930's, somewhere in the hilly piney woods South, this guy has an old secret that needs to be out before he dies. All the actors are excellent in a low-key way, the settings are memorable in an authentic, low-budget sort of way, cinematography is all done with natural light, in mainly kerosene lamp-lit interiors. This is a quiet, somewhat slow movie with zero FX and lots of period atmosphere. It's a first full length flick by director Aaron Schneider. Bill Murray and Cissy Spacek add excellent supporting roles. If you liked Winter's Bone (I did), this one is similar but in a much lighter way, sometimes almost a comedy.
