George Romero's Diary of the Dead

I just finished watching this on BD. The basic premise of the story is some college kids are in the woods filming a cheesy mummy horror flick as a film class project when new breaks that the dead are coming back to life. The kid who's filming his class project decides to document everything and what we see is everything he filmed, ala the style of Blair Witch Project or Cloverfield. His intention is to upload everything to the internet to show the truth of what happened and let others see what they dealt with it. All this while they try to go home to find their parents, and things keep getting worse, etc. The movie takes place over a few days time.

Overall I was a little dissapointed in the movie. The story itself was actually interesting and for the most part well designed. The acting just seemed to fall flat. The trouble for me is the characters seemed very blase' (sp?) to the entire situation and seemed to have little if any urgency about what they did, or had to do.

PQ was fine, nothing special, about what I'd expect from a low budget flick. SQ seemed mostly frontal, there was surround usage, but most of it was limited and for minimal effect. The surrounds never really set any ambience to pull you deeper into the film. That may have been intentional, as we're supposed to believe that this was edited from the camera's that shot them. There weren't as many zombies in the movie as you'd expect, but it seemed natural to the flow of the movie.

I really think this had potential to be much better than it was. It'll make an ok late night rental, but I'd wouldn't recommend spending the $14 to buy it.

That pretty much sums up my motivation when I ordered it off Amazon for $14, well that and the shots of tequila I did before I got home that night. :D
