Ok, so my dad calls me up last night, and hes telling me about this awesome deal he got on some Home Audio. apparently the stuff was worth almost $12k, and he paid $900 for all of it brand new in the box. He is goin on and on, and all the stuff sounds damn good. He asks if I ever heard of Genisis Media Labs, and im pretty knowledgable but no genious. So has anybody heard of them before, and are they legit? I mean The reciever pushes like 5,000 watts and the technology seems extrordinary. Tube amplifiers, and the overall mechanics seems awesome,,,so I looked up the website and it seems legit, but I see someone selling a surround sound system for $210 when it is listed at like $2,800. The sad thing is, they guy he got his from was someone he knows, so if he got ripped off, it was by a friend...but he has someone already willing to give him $3,000 and i told him to take it.

Im also curious, how much is this stuff really worth? I mean you cant get a good home theater system for under $3,000 anyway, so would this be a good deal at $900? Appriciate any help, thanks.

Looks like and sounds like White Van equipment to me. Do a search for white van to see what I'm talking about. The classic "If it looks to good to be true, it probably is" definitely applies here.

I'm sorry to say but your father was a victim of a scam. A very old scam actually. Back in the 70's, my friend worked for a company just like this. A factory is set up to make very cheap speaker look expensive. Then boiler room type scumbags rent a van and drive around looking for people with nice cars so that they can make it seem like they have stolen expensive equipment that they're willing to unload for a fraction of the price. Once every few years, these guys pull up to me and I mention my story and they drive off laughing to get the next guy.

I think the op got that message j...he hasn't posted here since he claimed he was offered 3k for the 12k system he purchased at .9k for "his father." A quick search tells you everyone is trying to unload this crap, not buy it. Finally, this thread is 176 days old (revitalized by laro...).

This exact scenario happened to me today while I was working, and I had to register here just to drop a line and say what a great and helpful community this is.

Two younger guys pulled up on our job site in a small white economy car and started with a spiel about how if they did not get rid of these systems they were just going to his bosses house, or would be thrown away. Claiming they were worth almost 4 grand- but willing to take 10 percent of that, $500 for a single box. (They had FIVE BOXES) of these things, marked genisis media labs.

A buddy of mine seemed to be contemplating the buy, and he had them open a box, which boasted a 2000 watt RMS sub and several surround sound speakers. The guy was trying to play it up like "Yeah, these are REAL genisis speakers!" I have been in the comp car audio scene for several years and am no genius, but had never heard of the name, looked at the box closer and told the guys to bugger off.

Watch out for these folks everyone- they play it up to be a great deal, it is not in any way. The speakers appeared to be of shoddy quality, and if it looks and smells like crap, it is probably crap, no matter how nice it seems. People will try to get money out of unsuspecting people any way they can.

Again, great place here, keep up the good work everyone!!
