General HT setup questions

So I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing when it comes to setting all of this up.

I recently purchased
2 Pioneer FS52
1 Pioneer C22
2 Pioneer BS22 (not hooked up yet because I have no room for them)
1 BIC America F12 sub
Denon 1912 receiver.

What should I do as far as volume levels on the sub as well as in the receiver, crossover frequencies, etc.

I have no audyssey mic and some people have said they didn't prefer it over manual setup. I just want to get the most out of the speakers and have them blend well but I have no idea what I'm doing.

I know how to navigate the receiver so I'm basically just curious what I need to do to maximize the sound. It currently is set up in a 3 walled room in one corner, facing the opposite corner.

Room dimensions are 15x15x9 and I know the acoustics make a difference but I'm more concerned with what I should set crossovers at, and should I raise levels on certain speakers and lower others. Volume control on the sub itself, full, half, 3/4?

Thanks for all your help

Go to radio shack or dig online and get an SPL meter. This will help with the manual setup if thats the direction you wish to go... Once upon a time I thought I was capable of just listening to the noises in setup and making them same volume... I was WAY off. If you really want to set it up well.. get an SPL meter- each channel should be the same at the listening position. As far as crossovers go- you can play with that a bit to your preference, but something in 80hz range or "large" will be fine.

If you REALLY want to get the most- see if you can track down an Audy mic.

I have a friend who has an audy mic, I'll borrow his.

Will the settings be equal for movies and music, or do you need to do separate calibrations?
