Gain Knob Settings on Poweramp

I am starting from scratch to set up my system. Set Pre-pro to factory default. My question is (poweramps all have gain knobs) "at what postition should I set my gains knobs on my amps. They go from 7-5 o'clock. If I turn them all the way up I have to set my Pre-pro to - 6db in order to bring it to 75db on SPL meter. Is there a standard setting for these knobs. Like 12 or 1 o'clock. One more thing, how does this effect the sub setting?

If you turn the amp gain too high on the sub, it can increase the noise generated by the amp. 1 o'clock is usually recommended but it can be changed to match levels with your speakers more easily. For the other amps, I would set it so that you get close to 0 dB on the pre with 75 dB test tones.
