hey everyone, im currently using my ps2 to watch movies and thought i would buy a component video cable as apparently they send better quality video than the standard single video plug. now when i run the cables from my ps2 to the tv the picture quality is better but theres like a flicker, or fuzzy sort of stuff in the background. its only faint, but beucase of this the picture is actually looking worse than when i was using the ordinary cables!

i tried running it through my received as well but getting exactly the same problem??

i thought i might've been able to use this for some improvement - but maybe ill just have to hang off until i can afford a ps2/BD player...

let me know if you have any thoughts :)

the equipment im using is listed in my sig.

cheers, matt.

Are you certain that the RGB (or YPbPr) is correctly connected to the RGB (that is, that you didn't connect the R to the G, or some other misconnection)? And that the cord and connectors on each device are all in good condition (cord not damaged, ends and connectors not loose or damaged)?

i bought the cables brand new last week, have connected it correctly, matching up the colours, tried running it through my receiver and running another set from receiver to tv, same issue..

Do you have the PS2 set to progressive? Maybe you could switch between 480i and 480p to see if it makes a difference. Is this a newer PS2 / Slim?

na its a fairly old, standard one, iv prob had it for umm 5years maybe?

where would i change the progressiveness? on the tv or in the ps2 menu?

It is somewhere in the PS2 menu, though like DTS, it may only be available when you have a DVD inserted in the player. I will have to check - I have an older version at home, but both it and the new Slim have the same software (slightly different hardware internally though).

Component video is Y Pb Br not RGB. Give that a try.

I also read up (since I didn't remember...) that you can set progressive by holding down X and Triangle when you boot up the PS2 - for a menu that allows the option to be set. This only sets progressive for games that support it and movies.

Is this a newer unit or an older one? (meaning is it still under warranty?) Have you tried it on another TV?
