Furman SPR 20i - Is it worth the money?

Is anyone out there running a furman SPR 20i?

If so, could you please share what it did for your video and audio improvement?

I am considering investing in a power conditioner, but am growing somewhat confused (and frustrated) with the numerous conflicting reviews on the exact same conditioners.

Some people will be reviewing a conditioner and say that saw no video improvement and others will say the contrast and detail dramatically improved.

I understand this may depend on the quality of the power being delivered to the respective owner's home.

I also recently ran a dedicated 20 amp line for my amp, so I am not sure if I will experience as much of an improvement as others.

I enjoy listening at louder levels and recently blew my two drivers on my center channel. I purchased new drivers from PSB and the PSB tech suggested to make sure I have clean power. I'd hate to blow my new drivers again.

Looking to spend around $500, but willing to go up to $1,000 if necessary.

Thank you!

Look at it this way. Those that say they see better PQ because of a voltage regulator are nuts. That or the power where they are is so bad it's actually making the picture worse. When speaking about audio and power conditioners, the only way one can make sound quality better is if (again) the power is so bad it actually hurts the signal.

Buy a voltmeter, put in one of your outlets. If the voltage is CONSTANTLY under 110 then you may have issues. One thing that most people don't realize is that modern power supplies are made to operate without constant voltage. Most will have an input voltage of something like 95-130 (that is not an exact quote) and are fully capable of performing as intended without perfect voltage.

The furman you are looking at is intended for recording studios more than home environments. You can buy it for your home, but you aren't going to see any real benefit unless you have real problems. If you do have problems, then furman is a fantastic brand and will make you very happy.

What do you have for equipment most amps have built in conditioners, I think its all BS personally... Most speakers can handle more power than they are rated for, and if you are trying to clean up your signal, you can probably do more with rerouting wires and making sure you are running a clean input signal....

You blew your centr listening to a movie, how loud do you listen and which amps, I am curious...

Wow, I missed the blown drivers part. A power conditioner/voltage regulator isn't going to fix that. There is something else going on. I've only blown a few drivers and that is including the years I sold consumer and pro audio. It isn't an easy thing to do if the driver is a good driver and is getting adequate power.

However, if a 5 year old turns off your mixer while it is supplying music to a 1000w amp, you will kill a compression driver. Sounds like a grenade is going of. Just sayin.

Well, as mentioned, it wasn't the fault of dirty power, that is for sure;):D
Your issue is driving speakers too hard, past their limits, period.
If you are bent on such loud volumes and hearing loss in your future, consider buying speakers that are used in concert shows that can blast 120+ dB spl constantly. ;)

What the PSB Tech was referring to was clean amplifier power, aka, the amp is not clipping. I'm guarantying that he did not mean, clean mains supply power.

Which speakers do you have and how are you powering them (see what I did there? amp not mains :))? If needed, we can suggest a competent amp that will have sufficient RMS and reserve power to adequately drive them.

Hi,

Thank you for your message.

I am running an Emotiva XPA-5 with a Yammy RXV-1900 in a 7.2 set up.
I was listening to a Pandora Radio station called Skrillex. A friend was over and suggested the station to give the system a workout. We were listening at a very loud level, but a level that still should have been safe for the system.

i use two power conditioners/volt. regulators in my system. furman is a quality brand. i don't think you should buy one based on your experience, as i don't believe "dirty power" is your problem..."turn it down" just a tad

what is the recommended power rating for your center? where is it crossed at?
