The sub is amazing at all volumes that my house/myself can bear.
I'm not sure if its the driver and the fact that its sealed, but it sounds very true to the source. Its amazing how it can sound so accurate and punchy in critical music but still play drum and bass without a problem.
It's the driver. First of all it's an 18. It barely has to even move to produce more output then most people's subs at full tilt. And needs less watts too. It's around 90db sensitive in its upper range. Most 12" drivers designed to dig deep, are closer to 84db sensitive. Less heat means less thermal compression (a form of distortion)
Second it's an LMT driver. These drivers use a variable density voice coil that means the magnetic field of the motor barely if at all changes no matter how far out the driver has moved. Less variations in this respect, means less throw-based compression (another form of distortion)
Third it's a driver with well placed shorting rings. This keeps its induction curve well under check which again just flat out means low distortion. With shorting rings, you're not hearing much if any intermodulation distortion between deep notes and other notes muddying up the sound. Every note is distinct and clear.
Fourth it's the watts. You've got a ton of them on tap if the signal calls for it
Finally, because it's got a typical sealed rolloff, it's probably coupling well to your room and listening preferences. Doesn't mean that can't be reproduced with a vent or transmission line, but it'd take a more intricate design and EQ approach. Sealed is simple, and it's smaller too
You flat out picked a great sub. Now it's time to get two more
