Ever since bought the new
"little" scope...my son and I have been enjoying lots of quality time at the eyepiece. I'll plop it down in the backyard if even to take a quick peek at the planets.....
My 7yo son got to see jupiters great red spot last week.....then tonight it was a moon transit. This is an example of a double whammy......the red spot and a moon transit.
Fun stuff!! The above photo is a little better, but it's very similar to how Jupiter looks at the eyepiece with extremely steady skies...the red spot is very subtle...and it can be overlooked unless you know what you're looking for. Sky conditions are everything when it comes to tweaking detail from Jupiter cloud belts.
Seeing a moon transit is the same..... you need steady skies to see the tiny black speck (moon shadow) crossing the face of the planet. If I combine the view of the Red spot from last week and the moon transit tonight, the above photo is very much like what my son and I saw with our own eyes at the eyepiece of the telescope.
Telescope stories, anyone?
