Need some recommendations on a home theater system. Trying to get the best gear for the money as I don't have an unlimited budget:) Would you recommend I purchase a 5.2 RSL system CG3 or CG23 system for around $1500 or would you recommend building my system slowly buying a pair of Sierra 2, LS50 or Verus 2 bookshelves with a sub and building my system slowly that way?

I just purchased a Denon x3300 receiver, and I own a Sony x900e 65 inch TV.

My room size is smaller 9.5 ft x 12 ft x 7 1/2 ft ceiling. Any thoughts? Thanks!

Your room isn’t too terribly big. The RSL system has received great reviews for what it is. Me personally, I would first and foremost purchase the best left/right and center speakers with the money you have. If you listen to 2ch music the left and rights are important, for movies, as much as 60-70% of the entire soundtrack (dialogue, music, and effects) is anchored to the center channel, and it needs to be able to perform at the same capacity as the l/r at least.

Before picking speakers, I’d answer these questions first, what is the main use of the system, movies, music, or split equally?

How loud do you listen, how far is the couch from the tv, and is realistic dynamics with movies important? How many channels?

I'm going to be mainly watching movies and TV on the system (Netflix, football, etc). The room is fairly small so wondering if an RSL system would suit me best. Everything I read regarding reviews make it sounds like it should be priced higher than it is because it sounds that good. In that room I will probably be sitting about 6.5 to 7 ft away from my 75 inch Sony x900e. I don't listen at reference volume as I don't want to make my ears bleed:). I listen at -15 to -10 db for movies I'm thinking and less than that for TV. I have the Denon x3300 which can do 5.2.2.

My friend owns a 5.1 RSL system, and it's amazing. I'm considering selling my speakers and sub and buying RSL.
You'll also be guaranteed excellent customer service.

Going with a timbre matched system, at least for the front three, is always better than having several 'brands' that may not mesh well.

Bonus: Free 30 day in home trial with free return shipping.

Does your friend own the CG3 speakers? I'm leaning towards these with my size of room and two RSL speed woofers. Then eventually adding Atmos.

Polk RtiA3's L/R and a CSiA6 center with Wavecrest audio HVL-1's for surrounds. Sub is SVS SB12- NSD.

Interested? LOL
Only interested in why the RSL was tempting you. Have plenty of gear, thanks :) So the one sub in your friend's huge room is sufficient? Hard to believe....

How are you a psb fan???:)

I know it is a hassle, but before you replace your gear, at least take your mains to his room and have a listen. The room can make a huge difference.

I don't know your speakers and have not personally heard the RSL's, so don't interpret this as saying your system should sound better than his!

Just make sure it isn't about the room.

The bass is sufficient for that room. Until you have heard an RSL system, you should reserve judgment. ;)

I'm okay KEW, thanks. I hope you are well.

We've gone the other way and brought the RSLs over here. The sound was even better in my room. :D

For $270 a pair the CG3's are fantastic speakers.

Perfect!

There really is no substitute for hearing the speakers in your own room before you commit if at all possible!

Glad you found your sound! I need to listen to the RSL's sometime!

Physics is physics, only so much a small sub like the Speedwoofer 10 can do in something like 5600 cuft (assuming 8 ft ceiing). My brother has some of the original RSL speakers (back when dad ran the company), been in the old stores, so am familiar with RSL. Does sound like the new stuff is pretty good, tho, but I'm not in the market for what the new RSL is offering....let alone needing a small sub like that :)

I am looking to buy my first system so trying to decide if I should start with a 2.1 setup and add to it over time or get a full RSL system for about the same price?

Have you ever heard HSU CCb8 speakers?

Ya, I'm thinking pretty seriously about an RSL system. For my room size, the price, and awesome reviews sounds like this is the way to go for me. It does have a 30 day trial too which is nice!

Just buy 8 of them and build an IMAX style wall of subs.

Well that question was for psbfan (was thinking he had PSB speakers). I think that RSL system for a room your size, and your use, would be a great way to go.

If music were the prime consideration, or for a larger room, or for future growth, the 2.1 thing might be a consideration....but probably 3.1 to start. My brother has two of the older RSLs (12" woofer, 3-way) and a couple years ago I went to visit and he had a 2.0 setup (and I brought him a sub which he didn't think he needed), and I definitely missed the center watching movies with hiim and his family. YMMV.

Haven't heard the Hsu speakers/subs particularly, but from the reports they seem like a worthy setup as well...

Good luck!

In a small room, the RSL speakers should do the trick. You can get more refined speakers if you spend more money, but if you aren't into critically listening to music recordings or if you aren't into bigtime dynamics, the RSL speakers should do fine. Since the RSL speakers aren't big, they won't eat up a lot of space.

Ya, I just want something I can enjoy watching TV and movies. The reviews make them sound like they have a big sound to them. For my size room and budget, these may be the best. Any recommendations on bookshelf speaker stands?
