Front Speaker Position

Here is my Dilemma-

Because of the wall configuration, I can place my front R/L speakers (in a 5.1 system)-

A. 8ft apart at the top of the wall (about 7 ft. off floor) pointed down at the listener

or

B. 6 ft apart at ear level. (middle of the TV screen, 43 inches off floor)

This is in a basement. Sofa seating is about 9.5 ft away from the front wall, against a back wall. Center channel will be just above the TV.

I am just a regular joe that wants it to sound good, I'm not going to hear the last 10% of difference. I have a Yamaha RX-V661 receiver, which I can tune with the YPAO. I am a NOOB to HT, but I understand the technology.

Thanks in advance

In that case, just place it at ear level. I think that will give a better presentation than up at the ceiling.

In my basement apt it sounded better with speakers closer together at ear level than wider apart at the ceiling, 7'. This was especially noticeable if I moved around or my couch slid back a few inches. My options were similar to yours in width, I am about 8' back.
